UNISTARR
For Working Parents

Home by seven. Sit down with family by nine.

Dinner, dishes, a load of laundry, bath time. By the time it is done the evening has gone and you have not really sat with your family. That is the part a helper gives back.

It is not the cooking that tires you.

A working mother said this and it has been stuck with the whole team since then. She did not want to hand over her kitchen. She liked cooking for her family. What was breaking her was the preparing and cleaning up.

What she takes. The marketing, the chopping and the peeling, every plate and pan after dinner, and the kitchen cleaned down.
What stays yours. Family time. Cooking, if you want it. Bedtime, homework, and the hour after dinner when your family actually wants to speak to you.

PSLE year. Be there for it.

Parents come to us in that year and it is almost never about tutoring. They want to sit with their child after dinner instead of standing at the sink. Say that when you brief us and it changes who we put in front of you. That year you want a helper who keeps the house running without being asked.

Quick questions

Do I have to stop cooking or hand over the kitchen to the helper?

No. Plenty of families keep the kitchen and hand over everything around it. Many families enjoy the cooking but want an extra pair of hands. Say so at the start and we will match for it, because a helper who is brilliant at what you did not need is a poor fit even if she is very good.

Will a helper actually give me more time?

A helper will not add hours to the day. She takes the jobs that were eating your evening, so the hours you already have go to your family instead.

How long before it feels normal?

Usually a few weeks. That is normal rather than a bad sign. Being clear from the first day about how you want things done shortens it a lot.

What if there is also a baby or an elderly parent at home?

Then say so and we will cover it in one shortlist. There is more on infant care and on eldercare if you want to read first.
