Families often ask me the same question, usually somewhere in the middle of our first conversation. "How do you actually choose?"

It is a fair question. From the outside, hiring a helper can look like scrolling through profiles until one feels right. I understand why it looks that way. But after eleven years of doing this, I can tell you that the profile is the last thing that matters, not the first.

What matters is the seven steps that happen around it. Here they are, in the order we run them, and why we do not skip any.

1

We listen to your home before we show you anyone

This is the step most people expect us to skip, and the one we protect most.

Before any biodata comes out, we want to understand the shape of your household. Who lives there. What your mornings look like. Whether there is a baby, a teenager, a parent who needs help getting up. Whether anyone is a light sleeper. Whether you cook at home every night or twice a week.

None of that fits on a form. It comes out in conversation. And it is the difference between a helper who fits and a helper who simply arrives.

2

We turn what you told us into a real brief

Once we understand your home, we write down what the right person actually looks like for you. Not a wish list, a brief.

Sometimes that means experience with newborns matters more than years on paper. Sometimes it means we need someone who is comfortable with a dog. Sometimes it means the most important quality is patience, because your mother is at the stage where she asks the same question four times.

This is where "we hear your needs" stops being a slogan and becomes a working document.

3

We shortlist from our own pool

We keep 300+ helper profiles available at any time, across Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Manipur and Mizoram.

Having our own pool matters more than it sounds. It means we are not scrambling to find you someone after you have already signed. It means when your brief is clear, we can usually come back to you quickly with a genuine shortlist rather than whoever happens to be available.

We aim to get that shortlist to you within 24 hours, and if it does not fit, we keep matching until it does.

4

We look at her story, not just her paperwork

A biodata tells you where someone worked and for how long. It does not tell you why she left, what she is good at, or what she is hoping for.

So we talk to her. We ask about the households she has been in, what she found hard, what she enjoyed. We check her references properly. If something does not add up, we would rather find out now than have you find out in month three.

A rushed match is cheap to make and expensive to live with.

5

We train her before she reaches your door

We run our own training centre in Singapore. Cooking, cleaning, infant care, eldercare, safety.

This is deliberate. A helper who has already practised the work arrives with confidence instead of fear, and the first month in your home goes very differently because of it. You are not paying to train someone from scratch on your own time.

6

The handover

The day she moves in, we do not just drop her off and wish you luck.

We go through expectations together, in plain language, so both sides start from the same understanding. Small things prevent big problems here: what time the day starts, how off days work, what she should do if she is unsure about something. Most of the conflicts I have seen over the years trace back to something that was never actually said out loud on day one.

7

We stay after the placement

This is the step that separates agencies, and it is the one you cannot see when you are choosing.

We check in. If something is not working, we would rather hear it in week two than month six, because in week two it is usually fixable. And if the match genuinely is not right, we replace her, backed by our 12-month replacement period, which is longer than most agencies offer.

Two ways to make a match

The shortcut The seven steps
Shows you profiles first Listens to your home first
Two or three biodatas over a week or two A genuine shortlist within 24 hours, and we keep matching until it fits
Reads the paperwork Checks her story and her references properly
She arrives untrained, on your time She trains before she reaches your door
Hands over and disappears Still picks up your WhatsApp two years on
Fast, but fragile Slower, and it stays

Why we do not skip a step

Every one of these steps costs us time. Skipping them would let us place more helpers, faster, for less.

But I have seen what the shortcut costs a family. A helper who leaves in two months. A home unsettled again. Fees paid twice. The saving was never real.

So we run all seven, every time. It is slower, and it is the whole job.
